On-Site Energy

Cost reduction and upgrading thermal energy

Sector: Meat Processing

Technology: Combined Heat and Power (2.5MW)

The Challenge: Shortage of steam and thermal energy for Clean-In-Place washdown water, working within a very developed site.

The Solution: 2.5MW CHP (ready for 100% hydrogen), using waste heat for steam raising and hot water, reducing gas consumption by over 20 GWh. The project was fully funded as a zero capex Energy Savings Agreement. Delivered cost savings of > £2m pa. The project involved the demolition of several smaller buildings in order to make way for the CHPs, as well as integrating to large scale tanks. The site sits within a populated cul-de-sac, so the team were very heedful in managing EHS responsibilities.
